A Guest blog by Crown Paints & Their Style Guide Saara.

Crown Paint’s Style Guide Saara recently styled a beautiful bedroom look featuring Crown's own MoodBoard shades and items of furniture from us - EZ Living Furniture. The space Saara created, like all of her designs, was so dreamy and certainly somewhere we’d love to relax in after a long day. We wanted to touch base with Saara about her design process and how she creates her magical rooms within the home.

Crown: How would you describe your design style?
Saara: My style is a mix of many different schools of design, while I enjoy a simple, even minimalist Scandi interior, I also love wild, tongue-in-cheek, and bursting with colour designs. Anything that surprises you and makes you feel happy is to my liking. Mixing old with new is essential (in my opinion) in order to give the space some soul. I’m also a huge fan of mid-century furniture and lighting. You can always get away with some simple budget options in a room if you add an eye-catching statement piece. By doing this, the surrounding accessories will automatically blend into the background.

Crown: Where should people start when designing a bedroom?
Saara: If designing a bedroom from scratch, I’d start with the main elements like choosing the bed and colour scheme and then it’ll be easier to find everything else to work with the overall design. Once the bigger things in the room have been selected then little items like cushions, vases etc can be used to tie the scheme together. Repetition works wonders in any room and using the same colours, shapes, and patterns here and there on different surfaces is an effortless way to create a successful design.

Crown: Any advice on how to choose the perfect colour paint?
Saara: First of all, I’d definitely recommend not being afraid of colour. It seems people can often end up with bland and boring schemes simply due to being nervous about trying something more adventurous. Colour can be a massively uplifting and energising element in an interior and such a budget-friendly way to completely change the look and feel of a space. Always get testers and paint patches on several walls and ceilings (or on pages and hang up on the paintable surfaces) and see how the colours work at different times of the day, in both natural and artificial light.

Crown: The bedroom you designed makes a statement while still being relaxing - how did you achieve this balance?
Saara: I was hoping to create a romantic and luxurious bedroom, perfect for relaxing and recharging. The soft pink tones of the paint colours, mixed with the darker pink shade on the headboard create a gorgeous contrast between the green lampshade and cushions. This gives the scheme energy while still feeling calm.

Crown: In your opinion, what makes a perfect bedroom?
Saara: The main thing is how you feel in the space and we’re all so different. Personally, I like a bit of everything and this is evident in our bedroom. I love waking up in the morning to see a gallery wall of a mix of funny quotes, family photos, and fibre art. The room overall is a mix of everything I love, textiles with black and white, botanical patterns, big splashes of colour, and also large areas of plain white to allow the eyes to rest. Soft, natural fabrics on bedding and rugs are essential and definitely worth investing in because how fabrics feel on your skin and bare toes is so important.
