Picking up a home accessory or two is the perfect way to style your home without having to spend a fortune. Quite often when moving into your first home you already have a collection of trinkets, photo frames, cushions and throws. But home decor is a serious business. It's easy to get carried away and lose sight of what you actually set out to achieve.

A mood board is a brilliant way to get started. Essentially a mood board is a collage of ideas that you have, things that have inspired you, colours that you like and so on. It's what all the pros use. The easiest way to do this is by cutting out or printing images of things you see and like and putting them together on one sheet of card or paper. Maybe it's a lavish table lamp or a rustic rug. Have you seen a mirror that you are sure fits into your plan? You can choose your colours and textures too.
