It’s Cultural Diversity Day, and to recognise the various cultures that make up the entire team at EZ Living Furniture, we’ve been celebrating internally with fun activities all week! Still, our appreciation for different cultures and countries got us thinking about the furniture we supply our customers with too! While we are a 100% Irish owned business, there are many different cultures and countries represented through the products and collections we offer! From the Scandinavian-inspired ranges to the Japandi-influenced pieces, we have many items that reflect international trends through their design, material, or both. In this blog, EZ Living Furniture highlights just some of the items influenced by various cultures. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s jump in!

Vega Oat Bar Stools With Grey Fabric Seats at EZ Living Furniture.

The Vega Bar Stools (Scandinavian)

One of the most prominent international influences you’ll see in interiors is Scandinavian Design. For the last number of years, this interior influence, which focuses on minimalism, light oak, tapered legs, and curved elements, all reflected in light, airy spaces, has dominated our homes. This aesthetic is easy to spot too, because it’s a clean-cut design that can’t be confused with anything else. When we look at its origin, it seems that this popular design first appeared in the early 20th century, but it’s only recently that this aesthetic has skyrocketed in popularity. One range that strongly reflects “Sandi Style” is our Vega Living & Dining Range. The collection features distinctive slatted lines where possible, curved backrests, and natural oak in a variety of shades. The Vega Bar Stools, pictured above, are just one item from the collection that will give you a visual representation of this beautiful design aesthetic.

Lyon Mahogany Bedside Locker at EZ Living Furniture.

The Lyon Two-Drawer Mahogany Bedside Locker (French)

Aptly named, the Lyon Bedside Locker has been somewhat of a firm favourite with our customer base since its first introduction back in 2019. And although this luxurious piece of bedside storage isn’t suitable for every home, there’s no doubt that it features many historic characteristics most recognisable from French chateaus and Parisian townhouses. Authentic French furniture is often crafted from high-quality materials such as walnut, cherry wood, and mahogany. The Lyon is made from a gorgeous mahogany wood, but its shape and ornate details prove to further enhance its French origin. Studying the bedside table above, you’ll notice the S-shaped legs, scalloped edges, and scroll/shell detailing on the lower front of the piece. Together with the vintage handles and the carved-out elements visible throughout, there’s no doubting that the Lyon embodies French furniture history in its entirety.

Avoca Rustic & Metal Bookcase at EZ Living Furniture.

The Avoca 8 Cube Mango Wood Bookcase (American – Industrial)

You might be familiar with industrial interior design? If not, here’s what you need to know. Industrial design first came about during the Industrial Revolution, whereby handcrafted products were abandoned in favour of mass-produced goods. When the focus on both functionality and aesthetics became the main priority for many homeowners, this is when, in Brooklyn, New York, the conversion of old warehouses to liveable homes first kicked off. When you think of warehouses, you’ll likely picture metal structures, dark, distressed wood, and tall buildings with ceilings and sometimes even without, allowing air and light to circulate. This is exactly what Industrial design is all about. The Avoca Cube Mango Wood Bookcase, pictured above, encompasses a lot of those elements. This piece is a great example of where dark wood meets a metal structure to create a warehouse-inspired design.

Legend 2.5 Seater/1.5 Seater Corner Sofa at EZ Living Furniture.

The 2.5 Seater/1.5 Legend Corner Sofa (Japanese & Scandinavian)

Japandi is a relatively new interior design style that first made an appearance back in 2022. Still making waves today, the word “Japandi” is a combination of two of the most popular interior design aesthetics – Japanese and Scandinavian. It’s funny, they might seem like worlds away from one another at first, especially in terms of locality and climate, architecture, and lifestyle, but when you really start to delve into what makes them recognisable, it’s only then that you realise how similar they really are. Both focus on simplicity, natural elements, and most of all, comfort, so it’s really no surprise that we are seeing more and more Japandi-influenced furniture – especially at EZ Living Furniture! While we have many items that showcase the combination of two wonderful cultures, there’s one piece that stands out among the rest – The Legend Sofa. Pictured above is our Legend Corner Sofa, which is upholstered in a neutral, grey-coloured material. The aim of Japandi is to create a calm and harmonious environment, meaning neutral shades are non-negotiable, so the Legend is a great example. Together with its low profile and incredible comfort, you’ve got Japandi all sewn up.

Maxima Rust & Silver Rug at EZ Living Furniture.

The Maxima Silver & Rust Print Rug (Moroccan)

We have an impressive selection of rugs available here at EZ Living Furniture, but one culture that is perhaps most featured is Morocco! Moroccan-inspired rugs are most recognisable for their unique patterns and motifs as well as their vibrant colours. And while authentic Moroccan rugs are made using wool from local sheep and dyed using natural henna, the design has been mimicked throughout the world. Of course, modern-day Moroccan rugs in other parts of the world use other materials and dye techniques, but typically, the patterns and motifs remain the same to reflect the region’s cultural heritage. The Maxima Rug, pictured above, features a woven design, strong, complementary colours, and that instantly recognisable Moroccan design. This textured rug mirrors a Persian style and can bring visual interest to any room. Finally, because of its unique design, this piece could also spark interesting conversations!
