A bedroom is not a bedroom without a bed and it's definitely not much of a bedroom without at least some essential items of furniture. A dressing table, wardrobe and one bedside locker (or two if you have the available space) are an absolute must. But even with all of these in place, your bedroom might still feel like it's lacking something - that je ne sais quoi. Well actually, in this case, we do know what it’s missing. For the most part, it’s the accessories that really transform a room from a functional and plain room into an attractive and cosy oasis that feels extremely welcoming after a long, hard day.
Certain home accessories work even better in a bedroom than if they were placed in other areas around the home. These smaller (and sometimes seen as less important items) can give a space a whole new look just by adding them to the mix. To help you with your quest to give your bedroom that snug finish, EZ Living Furniture has put together a list of accessories that every bedroom needs. Even better, you can snag them all for under €200 if you’re quick and take advantage of our current summer sale!
Rust Embroidered Leaf Cushion - €22.50.
Scatter Cushions
With scatter cushions there is an opportunity to add pops of colour, pattern, and texture to your bedroom decor. By adding a few cushions to your bed your room will look instantly better. Remember, three is key. Try not to use more than three cushions and choose colours that contrast with your bed linen but tie in the other accessories in the room. Pick a colour from an abstract painting on the wall or from a rug sitting underneath the bed frame. The beauty of a scatter cushion is that it can be easily swapped out if for some reason you tire of your colour scheme, and it won’t break the bank.
Mikala Rug (Small) - €44.10.
Area Rugs
So many homeowners are making the decision to remove carpet from their floors including bedroom floors. While carpet was popular all the way up to the 90s, it seems wooden, tiled, and laminate flooring are taken over. But what does this mean for our bare feet? There is nothing worse than walking over a cold surface, it can quite literally send a chill up your spine and most definitely through your feet. To avoid this and create a comfortable and warm sleeping environment, an area rug should be considered. Similar to cushions, rugs can add another layer of texture to the room. Colours and patterns can also be incorporated into the room through the use of a rug, so don’t rule one out in a carpeted room either. Try to use a large rug for this area and always place it 2/3 of the way under the bed to maximise your space.
Slaney Woven Table Lamp - €35.10.
Impact Lighting
There should be several sources of light in a bedroom. A table lamp, ceiling light and perhaps a floor lamp. Bedside lamps are particularly important because they can create an impact and remain functional at the same time. Not every fixture needs to be a showstopper, but at least one should make a statement and we think this should be your bedside table lamp. This creates a warm glow in the bedroom and is an absolute necessity, in our opinion. There is no need to get out of bed at night either to light up the pages of your favourite book, simply switch it on next to you while remaining in bed. Clever or lazy? You decide.
Jack Framed Print (Top) - €35.10, Jill Framed Print (Bottom) - €35.10.
Wall Art
It’s all well and good adding a sprinkling of texture here and a pop of colour there, but what about your personality? Yes, you can express this by including your favourite colours, however, wall art is the only way to truly express your individuality and personal taste. Safely assuming you are not about to invest in an exclusive Vincent van Gogh painting, a cost-effective canvas or print should be considered. If you are a budding artist or photographer, you should also think about buying large photo frames and showcasing your own talents.
Kayla Cream and Blue Print Pot Plant - €27.
Indoor Plants
Every room needs a houseplant and a plant pot to place that plant in. Plants help to purify the air and they bring an element of the outdoors into a space. A beautiful touch of green is also always welcome, and they help to give a serene feel to the room. If, like me, your fingers are anything but green, stick to minimal maintenance plants such as aloe vera, spider plants, English ivy, jade plants, or a peace lily. When even the thought of watering a plant sends you into a tizzy, choose faux plants. With fake foliage, the air won’t be purified, but that hint of colour is still applicable.
Luri Small Black Table Mirror - €29.70.
Mirrors
Mirror, mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all? Honestly? Every mirror. A mirror has so many benefits that it would be hard to justify not investing in one for your boudoir. Not only can they be used as a grooming aid, but they can reflect surroundings and light which help to maximise the space in a room. While a full-length mirror is most appropriate for that “final check” before you leave the house, a wall mirror or table mirror is also just as effective and usually sits at a lower price point. Now, the only problem that you need to worry about is choosing one.
Who knew it was that simple? We did! With these six home accessories, your bedroom will be transformed into the ultimate sanctuary for less than €200. Well, €193.50 to be exact.
