Living in an apartment has its challenges. The main challenge is, of course, the usual, lack of available space. This problem is then almost exacerbated during every holiday. Easter, Halloween, and Christmas all call for specific decorations with some being larger than others. An 8ft Christmas tree is certainly not an option in a tiny, one-bed, studio apartment. Even if you managed to squeeze it in the door, where would it go? The bathroom or the kitchen? And we haven't even started discussing where the rest of the Christmas decorations would fit. Christmas lights, a Christmas wreath, Christmas tree decorations, and Christmas cards all have to be accommodated and this can be limiting and stressful, especially when you have to think about storing them for the rest of the year. Most apartments don't have a garage or attic to use for this purpose, but this certainly should limit renters from decorating to their heart's content.

Luckily, the EZ Living Furniture team have devised a helpful guide that will navigate you through the difficulties of decorating your apartment for Christmas 2023.

Smaller Christmas Trees

When there is little space in which to decorate, you have to become inventive when it comes to Christmas trees. This means limiting/decreasing your expectations (by a couple of feet to be exact) and purchasing a smaller artificial Christmas tree. It is possible to buy a Christmas tree that is 2ft or above. These can be very cost-efficient and can come already decorated. (I’ve just saved you time and money, you can thank me later).

The EZ Living Furniture 3ft Scots Pine Tree comes placed in a pot and is ideal for setting on a coffee or kitchen table, which now creates an area for Christmas gifts (under the table).

You will also need to ensure that the Christmas tree you choose is slim in stature. If you do end up eating across from someone at the kitchen table with a tree in the middle, it would be handy to be able to see them (Just a thought).

There are many Christmas tree styles available for those who don't have much space to spare in their homes. If the traditional green foliage isn't for you, maybe a contemporary alternative is just what you have been looking for.

The Willow LED copper trees are available in three sizes and are a modern twist on a classic Christmas tree. They are slim and smaller in height than a regular Christmas tree style.

Christmas Tree Lights

You could use Christmas lights on your small tree, but risk collapsing from dizziness due to the number of times the tree will need to be circled to use the entire set. (And we wouldn’t want a hospital bill around Christmas, now would we?)

Christmas Decorations

Now, this is where the fun begins, ornaments are most often found to be smaller in stature. These can be put on window sills or TV stands as well as a dressing table. For your Christmas door decorations, consider decorating Christmas wreaths and indoor garlands with baubles.

A Christmas garland can be used in many different ways. For instance, the image above shows it being used as a Christmas table centrepiece.

Christmas Dinner

It’s the final and ultimate dilemma, trying but failing to host a family gathering at a kitchen table the size of a candy cane or a gingerbread man. Firstly, clear the table from all unnecessary objects. For me, this includes salt and pepper shakers, candles, letters, you name it, and it has probably been left on my kitchen table. Put them anywhere that is out of sight, the bedroom if you must. Once free from rubbish, you can start laying out the many place settings.

Next grab armchairs, footstools and bar stools of any size and squeeze them in around the table. Some guests will just need to be a little shorter or taller than usual for an hour or so. A few may also have the corner or leg of a table sticking into them. A couple may even have to sit on the sofa and eat from their laps, but at least everyone is accommodated.

Don’t let an apartment stop you from entertaining larger groups of people. And hey, there may not even be the annual monopoly game fallout that we have come to expect. Miracles do happen. Let the Christmas countdown begin!
