If like us, Christmas is your favourite time of the year, you’re probably already planning ways to turn your home into Santa’s Grotto. Don’t worry though, EZ Living Furniture is here to help! Here, you’ll learn how to make smarter decor decisions and by doing so you can display all of the beautiful Christmas ornaments you want without overwhelming your home. Choose Your Christmas Tree Wisely

Just because you live small, doesn’t mean you have to think small. One of the first things you might want to purchase is a Christmas tree and while an 8ft size might be out of the question, the item in question isn’t. You can always make room for a tree. Christmas trees come in a variety of different sizes. From tabletop trees to slightly larger wire-light alternatives. There’s a tree out there for everyone and every home. Suppose you don’t want to compromise on height but are concerned about consuming too much floor space. In that case, we suggest opting for a slim model that would fit snugly in the corner of a room or elevating your tabletop version on a coffee table, small stool or standing plant pot to save on floor space!

No Fireplace? No Problem - Get Creative

Christmas time is usually the only time you’ll see a completely decked-out mantelpiece. Halloween and Easter decor tends to end up in other areas of the home, perhaps because there isn’t the association of an overweight bunny navigating its way down the chimney flue. Still, we’re not here to disappoint Santa, quite the opposite really. We want to make his journey from our front door to the living room something he’ll never forget using beautiful Xmas decor. Instead of a fireplace, we suggest using a narrow table such as a console table or something a little more unconventional i.e. a radiator cover in the hallway. These options provide just enough surface area for a luscious pine needle garland and would be a gorgeous welcome to any visiting guests. Don’t forget to hang your stockings from your table so Saint Nick can fill them with treats!

Think Big With Decor

You might feel like using smaller decorations and ornaments will benefit your tiny home, but sometimes it can have the opposite effect. Instead of giving the illusion of a larger space, mini baubles and tiny figurines can shrink your space. Embrace the smallness of your home and really go for it with full-sized decorations. A few character figurines can make or break a home during the holiday season, so to make it feel more inviting to guests, make sure to include a few reindeer, some bears, a Santa, and a nutcracker or two. The best thing about these standing ornaments is that they can easily be placed off the ground on a shelf or table and won’t take up any floor space…which brings us to our next tip…

Christmas decal for window Christmas tree

“To The Window, To The Wall”

When you’re decorating a small home, it’s often the floor space that we focus on rather than the walls and windows and in doing so, we’re not really using everything available to us. There are so many opportunities for decorating in these areas. For windows, we suggest using decals. They’re a particular favourite of ours and the most effective at creating an indoor winter wonderland. Christmas window decals won’t break the bank, won’t consume any floor space, and are relatively easy to apply. Better still, unlike stickers, they can be removed without leaving a residue, meaning they can be applied to most surfaces including mirrors. And when it’s ready to take them down, simply place them back in the pack they came in and reuse them year after year! When it comes to decorating your walls, all you really need is one (or a few) shelves. Shelves are great for displaying smaller accessories, and again, like decals, they won’t consume any floor space. Throughout Christmas, you can use your shelves to display lanterns and figurines. To finish the entire look, you can hang Xmas lights from them too!

Swap Out Your Everyday Furnishings

A few simple, inexpensive ways to bring Xmas to your home is by swapping out your everyday soft furnishings. Items like cushions, throws, and small rugs, can be easily switched out for more festive alternatives. Tartan is a traditional pattern that has long since been associated with Christmas and introducing a few tartan cushions and a throw can make all the difference to your little home this Xmas. If you can’t seem to find a tartan pattern you love, opt for houndstooth which is similar in its design, or choose something in a faux fur material or traditional red colour and it will have a similar effect in the home. We won’t lie a rug is a little harder to swap out, but it’s not impossible, especially if it’s small. A great alternative for the winter months would be a beautiful soft faux fur rug in place of your current one.

Use Any Mirrors & Small Tables To Your Advantage

Whether you have a small apartment or a large sprawling mansion in the countryside, a wreath and garland are absolutely necessary for Christmas decor. But where to put them? It’s a real dilemma. While there are plenty of areas in a mansion to choose from, you might find it a little harder to find a spot in a studio. This is where creativity comes in. Christmas wreaths aren’t just for doors, when placed on a dining table or coffee table, they make great centrepieces. Simply add a few LED candles to the middle of yours as we have done above to make a glowing statement. If you’ve decided against the makeshift fireplace above, we have another option for you. Simply drape your beautiful pine needle garland from any hanging mirror using Command Hooks. Doing so, will not compromise any floor space and will create a beautiful feature in your tiny home.

Now that you have lots of different ideas for decorating your small house or apartment, it’s time to go shopping. EZ Living Furniture’s Christmas Collection caters for all homes, big and small. Browse the full range here.
