Benches are versatile pieces of furniture for any home. Unsurprisingly, you’re most likely to find a dining bench in the dining room of a person’s house. But what if these multi-functional items of furniture were positioned elsewhere around the home? Would it work? Well, yes. If you’ve been following our blogs for a while you’ll already know that most items of furniture have multiple uses and a dining bench is no different. This is beneficial in more ways than one but most importantly is that multi-functional items can end up saving you time and money. Just think about it, when something is no longer useful as its primary function, there is no need to replace it. Just simply move the item from room to room until you no longer have any need for it and simply want an upgrade. So, what rooms can dining benches be used in besides the dining room? And what can they be used for? This and more are answered in this EZ Living Furniture blog below.
At The End Of A Bed
Dining benches especially backless versions work extremely well at the foot of a bed. Now we know this is where you would usually find a blanket box or a specific bedroom bench, but a dining bench would work just as well here too. This will create a cosy spot for you to put your shoes on or to use as extra seating when required. The Ella Bench above has a padded, green velvet seat which is extremely comfortable. Because of this and its versatile design, it would be a great alternative to a regular blanket box.
In A Hallway
If you position a dining bench in an entryway, it can double as a hallway bench and provide a place to sit while taking off shoes or tying laces. Entryway benches or in this case, a dining bench can also be used as a decorative piece to add character and style to a hallway. Storage boxes and baskets can always be included underneath your dining bench to store items you would usually leave at the doorway. Hat, gloves, scarves, bags, you name it, and there will be a place to keep it with the addition of a few inexpensive storage baskets. The Gain Dining Bench above is padded, so would be extremely comfortable for the task of sitting down to remove your shoes. This dining bench also sports a neutral taupe leather upholstery, so it will blend in with a variety of decor and colour schemes.
As A Narrow Coffee Table
The purpose of a coffee table is to provide a convenient surface for drinks, snacks, reading materials, and other items. They are typically placed in living rooms, family rooms, and other communal spaces for easy access. Coffee tables can also serve as a decorative piece or focal point in the room because they are available in a variety of styles and colours. The India Dining Bench above is crafted from Sheesham wood and although unorthodox, would make a perfect narrow coffee table in a space.
As A Room Divider
Dining benches make excellent room dividers. The Chicago Dining Bench above is made from a beautiful dark reclaimed wood and would create a stunning contrast between individual spaces. If you have an open-plan home, you will understand the importance of defining certain zones within one large area. It’s necessary, otherwise, how will you or anyone else know what the purpose of each area is? Typically, you will find that the living and dining rooms are one large open-plan space. To separate these, you can use some of the larger furniture items such as a sofa. The back of a sofa makes a great divider and can help to divide the two areas without the need for construction.
Outdoors
While we wouldn’t normally recommend placing an indoor item outside, it can work in some instances. Outdoor gatherings can happen spontaneously in Ireland and the UK and it's because we don’t often experience good weather and when we do it’s often short-lived. So, we do try and make the most of the sun’s rays while we can. This means spontaneous barbeques in the garden or patio with neighbours, family and friends. Garden furniture is great but will usually only seat those first few punctual individuals, after that, it can be a scramble for anything half resembling a chair. This is where a dining bench would come in handy. Placed on a patio, it would create extra seating for those attending your event and could be something that you already have in your dining room and at your disposal. The Lucca Dining Bench is made from grade 1 European oak and would highlight both your indoor and outdoor areas.
EZ TIP: Dining Benches are indoor items of furniture which is why we would only recommend using them outdoors under a covered area and on a hard surface. Please remember to bring them back indoors after each day and when not in use.
In A Mudroom
A mudroom is usually a back room in a house that leads out to the garden. It is also known as a utility room. Typically, it will house a washing machine, dryer, and possibly even the dishwasher. Now though, with modern designs, we are seeing this room becoming more of a multi-purpose space. It can be used as a cloakroom and is where many will enter the home. This is why a dining bench would work particularly well in a mudroom because it could be used as a place to sit and take off muddy shoes before entering the house. The Toronto Bench above is made from reclaimed pine, it would add an eye-catching finishing touch to this room and would be extremely useful.
A Home Office Bench
Place a dining bench along a wall in a home office for an extra spot to take a break or to use as a place to put a laptop or other items. The Tim light brown faux leather bench has a comfortable back and would be the perfect place for a lunchtime snack or tea break. The best thing about leather and faux leather is that they can be easily wiped clean too, so if you do happen to spill something on this bench, you needn’t worry too much. Just simply wipe it down with a damp cloth.
It’s clear to see that purchasing a dining bench really is a good investment. It can lend itself to a number of tasks around the house and look good while doing them.
