Is clothing littering your bedroom floor? Are there piles of messy beauty products lying around your dressing table? If this sounds like your bedroom, it might be time for a storage makeover. This clutter isn’t conducive to a full and undisturbed night’s sleep. When belongings start to overtake your boudoir, it’s hard to imagine it ever feeling like a relaxing sanctuary, and it should. This room is the one space in the home that is supposed to feel like a haven. To resolve this issue, you will need to act by decluttering and introducing a number of storage solutions. Luckily, we have put together a few key furniture pieces that can help you make the most of every square inch in your room and get that clutter organised and under control once and for all.
Ottoman Beds
Arguably, one of the largest items of furniture in the boudoir is the bed. People often opt for a slatted bed frame for their mattress which will usually have space underneath for storage boxes. This is a popular option but does tend to look cluttered when boxes inevitably start to peep out from under the frame. Another reason to avoid storing your items like this is that it can affect the structure of the bed frame. Think about it, boxes that are pulled out and pushed back in thoughtlessly will inevitably end up pushing against and damaging the supporting legs of the bed frame. Instead, we suggest investing in an ottoman bed which features gas-lift hydraulics that lifts up the base to reveal plenty of space underneath the mattress. This option provides greater storage capacity than a drawer bed or bed frame since you can make full use of the space underneath. You could choose to keep spare bedsheets, extra towels, seasonal clothing, and really anything you don’t want to be displayed here.
Bedside Lockers
If you want to incorporate a bedside table into your decor, opt for ones with storage drawers. Here, you can keep your most reached-for items close by and tidied away. Having a dedicated space for your night-time essentials such as hand creams and books will help things to feel ultra-organised. Try to keep the contents on the surface of the table minimal to avoid a cluttered look. We suggest keeping a bedside lamp, plant, and clock here because these accessories tend to complement each other well.
Wardrobes
This is likely a controversial option on the list, after all, wardrobes tend to be large items that consume a lot of floor space. Yes, this is true, but they also have the ability to offer a great deal of storage too! Not only does a wardrobe provide plenty of hanging space, but some even include shelves or drawers suitable for folded items. The bottom could also be used for shoes, it’s a no-brainer really.
Dressing Tables
If you haven’t already, invest in a dressing table. Most of these have drawers that can be used to store makeup, hair tools, or any beauty items, leaving lots of tabletop space for your makeup brushes and jewellery boxes. Vanity tables like these typically come with a mirror too or they can be purchased separately, which allows you to get yourself ready in the morning without having to leave the room.
Storage Benches Or Stools
Also known as a blanket box, a storage bench is usually found at the end of the bed. It can be used to store blankets, but it doesn’t need to be exclusively used for keeping blankets. This is another way to maximise storage in bedrooms lacking that much-needed space. A smaller version could also be used instead of a dressing table chair. This would mean that you have additional space and a functional chair all in one.
Even the smallest and most humble of box rooms can serve as a comfortable bedroom. Incorporating the items listed above into your room will allow you to better utilise the space and turn it into a great multi-functional space too!
