Spring is here, well, at least that’s what they’re saying, but we’ve yet to see any evidence of it. And while the weather is reluctantly improving, it’s time for us to start thinking about how we can refresh our homes before the sun starts shining in our windows and revealing how neglectful and filthy we truly are. Don’t fret though, a good, thorough clean and some decor improvements are all that’s needed to get us through these trying times. Luckily, here at EZ Living Furniture, we’re committed to helping you and enhancing your home decor. So, what are you waiting for….discover our lists of tips for refreshing your home this spring below!
1. Deep Clean
The first place to start is with a deep clean. You can only successfully revitalise your interior by giving each room a good, proper cleaning. There’s no better feeling than tackling a task you’ve been putting off for ages. Whether it’s throwing out all of the expired food from your cupboards or scrubbing out your shower. Once you are realistic about your goals and can successfully clean the areas you feel are the most neglected, then you’re well on your way to achieving a fresh, new interior.
2. Use Fragrances
Interior design is all about appealing to a person’s senses. Yes, it’s primarily visual, but that doesn’t mean that smells and sounds don’t also play an important role. If you don’t already own a diffuser set or some candles, then it’s time to invest in some. These small items are relatively inexpensive, but once lit or opened, they can completely change how you and anyone else view your home. Similarly, a bunch of fresh flowers can completely change a person’s impression of a space because of their smell and added colour.
3. Update Your Table Decor
Forget the sandpaper, paintbrushes, and oil, all you need to reinvigorate your dining table and dining room is some new table decor. Think placemats and coasters, table runners and tablecloths, and don’t forget to add a few decorative accessories for embellishment. Include a vase, some taper candles with candle holders, and a tray for grouping accessories together. What you should have now is a beautifully decorated tablescape.
4. Add New Plants Or Fresh Flowers
We can’t talk about refreshing a home for spring without highlighting the importance of plants and flowers. Spring is all about inviting nature indoors and you’ll frequently see daffodils included in spring decor and that‘s because we’re eager to represent this time of year in our homes. If a bunch of flowers is more your “thing”, then tulips would be a good choice because of their ability to add colour to your display and their variety of colours available.
5. Swap Out Duvet Covers & Throws
You heard it here first, it’s time to swap out those heavy tog duvets and furry throws for something a little lighter. The warmer weather is about to appear and there’s nothing worse than a disturbed night’s sleep because of overheating throughout the night. If you don’t already own lighter duvets, it’s worth investing in some for spring and summer. Look for lighter togs when shopping for yours. Similarly, a thinner throw would work better this time of year whether positioned on the end of a bed or as a wrap-around blanket on the sofa. Remember to look for lighter colours to represent spring.
6. Organise & Declutter
During the cleaning process, you might have already discovered items that you no longer need or even like. Now’s the time to get rid of them. If you have a lot that you plan on getting rid of, we suggest first creating designated areas for items you wish to donate, sell, and dispose of. Once you have everything in its place and out of the house, we can guarantee you that you’ll feel lighter as a person and your home will feel more spacious.

7. Change Up Your Lighting
Yes, you might argue that it’s light enough outside as it is. We’re already a few weeks into experiencing longer evenings but that doesn’t mean that lighting should be ignored. Now’s the time to experiment with your lighting. Play around with lighter-coloured lamp shades, wicker, bamboo and even rattan ceiling lights. Table lamps are an absolute must and it’s only when you don’t have one, you truly realise how important they are, so we suggest choosing one that is suitable year-round. Finally, don’t forget to consider floor lamps for areas like the living room and dining room.
8. Upgrade Your Towels
The only opportunity most of us have to include a bit of colour in the bathroom is through our towels. Hand towels are always on display, so these will need updating far more often than our bath towels. When swapping out yours for some new fluffy options, make sure to look for neutral colours such as white, cream, mocha etc to brighten up your washrooms.
9. Invest In Wall Art
Wall art is one of those things that people tend to overlook. However, its impact is immense. It can completely change the look and feel of your room, and if incorrectly chosen, it can completely ruin a room. Swapping out your wall art for something fresh in the spring is an inexpensive way to redecorate a room and if you become bored quickly by it, it can simply be unhooked and taken down.
10. Rearrange Your Furniture
Investing in new pieces regardless of how big or small the items will be, is hard. When you’re on a tight budget, there really is no wiggle room and that means reimagining what you already have. By simply rearranging those larger items of furniture like sofas in the living room, and dining tables and chairs in the dining room, you can completely change the look of your space. Better still, you’ll have spent nothing by doing this!
With this spring checklist, you’ll be well on your way to getting your home refreshed for the new season.
